Breaking news all over the internet would say that Fall Out Boy have either broken up or gone on a long term break. Reports are conflicting but I think it’s safe to say that we won’t be seeing any new material from them any time soon.

You may think I’m some emo person based on the fact that I would even mention Fall Out Boy but the fact is that I’ve liked them for years and I’m pretty sure I’m not emo. People won’t take a chance on a band depending on certain stereotypes that people put forward. In their case the ‘emo’ tag is tightly attached to the band and mention them to many people and they will be horrified that I like such a band. But they have no idea what they’re missing. The lyrics may well be depressing at times, but they’re very well written, songs are generally catchy and stick in your head especially songs like ‘Dance, Dance’ which brought them into the mainstream. Just because a band has lots of fans who are young teens who dye their hair black and wear dark clothing and make-up doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t listen to them. The same logic goes towards bands such as Paramore, another so called ‘emo’ band who for the record have some produced some excellent music.

I was tempted to go down the very predictable and already highly used line of using ‘Thnks Fr Th Mmrs’ as my exit line or the main lyrics for the article but thought that was slightly cheesey and inappropriate. My money would suggest that Fall Out Boy will be back, not anytime soon but perhaps in 2 or 3 years they’ll sort things out and get back in the studio. Instead I choose the song ‘I’ve Got A Dark Alley And A Bad Idea That Says You Should Shut Your Mouth (Summer Song)’

It makes me more confident of a re-union at some point whenever Pete Wentz posts a picture such as this one and comments that he misses the good old days. I think this is a massive hint that Fall Out Boy will be back. However in the mean-time Patrick Stump is due to release a solo album, Joe Trohman and Andy Hurley have formed the ‘Damned Things’ with members of Anthrax. Finally Pete Wentz is collaborating on a track with Blink 182’s Mark Hoppus for the new Alice in Wonderland film, so all in all we are due a lot of new music from the individual band members, which can only be a good thing for the fans. Perhaps Mark Hoppus might have a word in Pete Wentz’s ear and tell him not to go on a break like he did with Blink 182 and to just get on with touring and making new material.
